Innovation Engineering System

TRANSFORMING INNOVATION FROM A RANDOM GAMBLE TO A RELIABLE SYSTEM FOR PROFITABLE GROWTH

We Accomplish This By Creating A Culture Of Never Ending Innovation That Delivers Increased Innovation Speed (Up To 6 Times) And Decreased Risk (30% - 80%)

Innovation Engineering® was developed by the Eureka! Ranch R&D team based on scientific analysis almost 30 years of client projects.  Statistical analysis included quantitative concept data on over 26,000 Innovations and innovation attitude and process data on over 11,000 innovation cultures.  Innovation Engineering is commercialized by the Innovation Engineering Institute a Joint Venture of the Eureka! Ranch and the University of Maine.

Innovation Engineering, as a movement, began in 2010. However, the learning behind it and the experiments that are its foundation have been developed over the past 40 years. The original idea for Innovation Engineering was sparked by the work of Dr. W Edwards Deming who was the American Statistician credited with helping rebuild Japan after World War II. The founder of Toyota said, “Dr. Deming is the core of our management.”

Eureka! applied the system approach of Deming to innovation at Procter & Gamble where the team set a record creating and shipping into live market tests nine innovations in twelve months. It was then applied to multi-national companies such as Nike, Walt Disney, Pepsi, Hewlett Packard, and American Express increase innovation speed and decrease risk. One thing that separates Eureka! from other innovation experts is a relentless focus on measurement, statistical analysis, and development of reproducible systems of innovation. To that end, over the past 30 years the Eureka! team has conducted quantitative research and live experiments on over 26,000 innovation concepts, over 15,000 teams and over 100,000 individuals during the process of creating and commercializing innovations.

In 2006, Innovation Engineering was accepted as a new field of study and leadership science, with it's first course taught at the University of Maine. Now it's taught as an undergraduate minor and major certificate program in 20 universities across the US and Canada. In 2010 it was made commercially available for individuals and companies through courses, tools and projects applying this new discipline.

WHY THE NAME, 'INNOVATION ENGINEERING'?

Innovation is about productive imagination. It’s about ideas with a purpose. It’s about ideas and innovations that solve meaningful consumer problems and make more money. Engineering is about application to the real world. Innovation Engineering teaches and applies discipline, problem solving, experimentation and systems thinking to dramatically increase the odds of success of a new innovation or initiative.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF INNOVATION ENGINEERING?

Proven with 15+ Fortune 500 companies to increase speed and decrease risk of innovations leading to a 250% greater chance of success. Innovation Engineering is a scientific system for growing a culture of never-ending innovation with increased speed (up to 6x) and decreased risk (30-80%).

When we asked CEOs why they don’t focus more on innovation they said that it costs too much and it is too risky. As we applied the principles of Dr. Deming to innovation we were able to actually increase speed and reduce risk at the same time. This is done with a proven and systemic process and proprietary tools used to create, communicate and commercialize ideas on the front-end of the innovation pipeline.

CURRENT CLIENTS OF INNOVATION ENGINEERING ?

Today companies such as Procter & Gamble, Hallmark, GoJo, Mars, ITW, Ocean Spray, Lockheed Martin, Wal-Mart, and many others are using this throughout the year to drive superior growth and innovations. Approximately 90% of clients that run a test project with Innovation Engineering continue on and embed this process in their organization.
