Innovation Engineering, as a movement, began in 2010. However, the learning behind it and the experiments that are its foundation have been developed over the past 40 years. The original idea for Innovation Engineering was sparked by the work of Dr. W Edwards Deming who was the American Statistician credited with helping rebuild Japan after World War II. The founder of Toyota said, “Dr. Deming is the core of our management.”

Eureka! applied the system approach of Deming to innovation at Procter & Gamble where the team set a record creating and shipping into live market tests nine innovations in twelve months. It was then applied to multi-national companies such as Nike, Walt Disney, Pepsi, Hewlett Packard, and American Express increase innovation speed and decrease risk. One thing that separates Eureka! from other innovation experts is a relentless focus on measurement, statistical analysis, and development of reproducible systems of innovation. To that end, over the past 30 years the Eureka! team has conducted quantitative research and live experiments on over 26,000 innovation concepts, over 15,000 teams and over 100,000 individuals during the process of creating and commercializing innovations.

In 2006, Innovation Engineering was accepted as a new field of study and leadership science, with it's first course taught at the University of Maine. Now it's taught as an undergraduate minor and major certificate program in 20 universities across the US and Canada. In 2010 it was made commercially available for individuals and companies through courses, tools and projects applying this new discipline.

Uncover What Innovation Engineering Will Do For You

Any company’s goal is to develop a profitable product and constantly stay relevant to the ever-changing market. The process of doing this isn’t as simple as sitting around the table and shooting ideas at one another. If it were, every company would be successful. Understanding how to create necessary, relevant, trending, and needed products starts with innovative engineering. You need to dig deep, be creative and create a problem that can only be solved with your product. Innovation Engineering takes your company to the next level by solving problems within your business and organizations with innovative concepts that adapt to your target market. Innovation is about imagination. It’s about coming up with the idea that may even seem far-fetched, but through practical research, understanding, and necessary tools, you create a product that your customers didn’t even know that they needed.

What if you could reduce the risk by up to 80% and make the innovation speed 6x faster? What could this mean for your business? Eureka! Inventing introduced Innovation Engineering in 2010. This was an idea that was based on the experiments and a foundation that is over 40 years old by Dr. W Edwards Deming. Through quantitative research and live experiments, the process of creating and commercializing innovations came to life, and since then has helped thousands of companies with courses, tools, and projects. We’ve been around for decades, and helping people and companies just like you get the help they need not only to take their concepts and put them into action, but also to spark their creativity through workshops and training.

How To Be An Expert in Innovation Engineering

If only it was as easy as reading a book and knowing exactly what to do. Innovation Engineering is a mind that has the ability to see things in a way that nobody else does, knows how to gather the correct information, and creates a team of people that know how to build off of each other. There are specific qualities of an innovation engineer that will aid in the successful innovative concepts that will take your company to the next level. They will allow you to develop and create ideas that not only make a difference in your market, but won’t’ create a financial risk that isn’t worth taking.

Here are some of the ways that you can develop these qualities:

You’re going to need to know who you are.
We all have strengths and weaknesses. When you understand what you’re capable and not capable of doing, it helps to highlight your strengths and weaknesses so that you can improve your weaknesses or delegate others for those areas.

Find other innovative thinkers
You need to change the way that your mind currently works. Sounds intimidating, doesn’t it? You can start by reading, listening to podcasts, and paying close attention to other innovative thinkers. The way you begin to look at all types of things will start to change.

Build a team
You know your weaknesses, so build a team to fill those weaknesses, gain support and have accountability.

Reduce your risks
Where there are risks, there are rewards, and you’ll need to take risks. But it’s essential that you take calculated risks.

At Eureka! Inventing, we’re a full-service innovations systems, training and consulting company that reduces risks, increases speed, and provides innovative solutions to unique problems through design, analysis, fabrication, and testing. Innovation Engineering is a scientific system that has been proven to increase speed and decrease risk by using the right tools, proper communication, and an innovative pipeline.

Uncover How To Develop Innovative Engineering Solutions

Solving problems that are presented to you is much easier than creating problems then finding the solutions to these unique problems. This requires a different outlook, an understanding, and the right process that will drive superior growth and innovations. We will help you find innovative solutions that will transform the efficiency and effectiveness of the entire process from product development, manufacturing and sustainment.

It doesn’t matter if you already have the idea for a product or if you haven’t even begun the process. We’ll help you not only transform your idea into something feasible, but it will also help you to develop a useful and potentially profitable product that will set you apart from your competition. Innovation is imagination, and it has the potential of adding value to just about anything and everything and should play a major role in your business from marketing to product development.

Innovation is about productive imagination. It’s about ideas with a purpose. It’s about ideas and innovations that solve meaningful consumer problems and make more money. Engineering is about application to the real world. Innovation Engineering teaches and applies discipline, problem solving, experimentation and systems thinking to dramatically increase the odds of success of a new innovation or initiative.

Proven with 15+ Fortune 500 companies to increase speed and decrease risk of innovations leading to a 250% greater chance of success. Innovation Engineering is a scientific system for growing a culture of never-ending innovation with increased speed (up to 6x) and decreased risk (30-80%).

When we asked CEOs why they don’t focus more on innovation they said that it costs too much and it is too risky. As we applied the principles of Dr. Deming to innovation we were able to actually increase speed and reduce risk at the same time. This is done with a proven and systemic process and proprietary tools used to create, communicate and commercialize ideas on the front-end of the innovation pipeline.

Today companies such as Procter & Gamble, Hallmark, GoJo, Mars, ITW, Ocean Spray, Lockheed Martin, Wal-Mart, and many others are using this throughout the year to drive superior growth and innovations. Approximately 90% of clients that run a test project with Innovation Engineering continue on and embed this process in their organization.
